What is Domain Authority?

SEMrush Authority Score is a comprehensive metric designed to evaluate a domain’s or webpage’s overall quality and SEO performance. It incorporates various metrics to assess trustworthiness and authority.

While numerous factors influence a website’s ranking on Google, efforts to improve marketing strategies and website ranking alone may not suffice. Google considers over 200 factors when determining a website’s ranking on SERPs.

One widely used metric for predicting a website’s authority is Domain Authority, devised by Moz. Domain Authority is a score ranging from one to 100, indicating a website’s potential to rank on SERPs. Higher scores suggest better ranking abilities.

Domain Authority is calculated based on numerous factors, including backlink quantity and quality, content quality, social signals, SEO performance, and root domains. Websites with many high-quality backlinks typically have higher domain authority.

It’s important to note that increasing Domain Authority becomes more challenging as the score rises due to its logarithmic nature. Websites with lower initial scores find it easier to achieve significant score increases compared to those already ranking higher.

While Domain Authority isn’t a Google metric and doesn’t directly impact SERPs, it correlates with SERP rankings. Despite not being a Google ranking factor, Domain Authority remains valuable for predicting a website’s potential to attract organic traffic from Google’s search engine.
